About Jackiem Joyner - Lil' Man Soul
Jackiem Joyner makes a huge step in his young Jazz career with Lil'Man Soul, his sophomore album. Discovered by Richard Elliot and Rick Braun, and supported by Peter White on his first title Babysoul, Jackiem has continually worked with top flight contemporary Jazz performers such as Joe Sample, Wayman Tisdale and Gerald Albright among others. Add to that a couple years of hopping the globe as member of Keiko Matsui's band, and this Lil' Man Soul is ready to be steppin' out and into the bright lights himself.

I purchased this CD with the Grooveology and they both did not impress me much. There just was not that umph to it. I did like this one better than the other one though.

The title of sax sensation Jackiem Joyner's upcoming release, Lil Man Soul, suggests that the relatively new saxophonist has "graduated" or matured from his early musical infancy to what he represents here on this latest effort. That couldn't be more correct, although, in my opinion, his growth began the moment he blew--no, caressed--the first note of his debut album, Babysoul. Here is an artist who is simply destined to be one of the finest in the business. The fact that the power horn duo, Richard Elliot and Rick Braun, heard and signed this young talent to their label practically as soon as he was visible--and the fact that fantastic and iconic keyboardist Keiko Matsui recruited this talent to tour with her as her chief saxman-- speak volumes about the capabilities of Joyner. This new release just adds further testimony to those capabilities. -- Ronald Jackson, [...]

"I was really looking forward to this show. I had been listening to Okkervil River's new album "The Stand Ins" for a couple of weeks leading up to and was primed for a great show. I was also excited because Crooked Fingers were warming up and I like them..."
