Heading to Woodstock
Posted: Nov 03, 2009
Everyone, thousands of us, all walking from wherever our last ride ended. Charlie Hicks and I were 15 years old and had hitchhiked from Arlington, VA. The NY state thruway was clogging up, we had to walk. The total walk ride for me and Charlie was about 35 miles I'd say. Walkin, passing doobies and jugs of wine, jumping on car hoods whenever the procession of cars started moving again. It was friday night and half a million hippies were going to the party of their life! Heading to Woodstock. We jumped on and off of cars and walked for what must of been 8 hours. Hearing the music growing louder off in the distance as we approach the staging area good and trashed. It was the best three days of my life. I'll never forget!

"One of the best shows I've seen. Billy Joel played all my favorites and had an awesome close with "Only the Good Die Young" and "Piano Man". When he played "We Didn't Start the Fire", the whole crowd was on its feet!..."
